Fort Dodge Federated Garden Club

President-Jan Krass
Fort Dodge Federated Garden Club was organized in 1928 and federated in February 1929. Except for two meetings when we have potlucks, we meet the third Tuesday of each month at 1:00 in the Lions Den, in Armstrong Park, 731 Exposition Drive, Fort Dodge, and we welcome visitors. Potluck meetings begin with food at noon. Each month we hear a five-minute report on a single species of the yearly topic of interest. Throughout the years, those topics have included perennials, annuals, trees, shade plants, design principles, succulents, houseplants, shrubs, ornamental grasses, bulbs, birds, and butterflies. With 33 members, the two major fundraisers are a plant/garage sale in May and a Twilight Tour of Gardens in July. In addition to our annual flower show, we also sponsor a flower show at the Webster County Fair in July. Other activities have included maintaining the garden beds around the Lions Den, planting seeds with preschoolers, harvesting seeds from native plants at Brushy Creek for state park use, and donating items to a charitable cause in December. Six of our members are flower show judges. We have a club page, called Fort Dodge Federated Club, open to the public, on Facebook.
