Federated Garden Clubs of Iowa

 A member of the National Garden Club inc., The Federated Garden Club of Iowa is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that cultivates the interest and education of horticulture, landscaping, floral design and environmental responsibility. 

Iowa has over 700 members with 30 clubs divided into 8 districts across the state of Iowa.

Clubs meet regularly with a variety of activities which include workshops, field trips, guest speakers, educational programs, and community involvement.   

Meeting activities are opportunities to promote horticulture skills, floral design, civic beautification, protecting wildlife, birds and trees, and environmental responsibility in our clubs and communities.

History

The Federated Garden Clubs of Iowa grew out of the Garden Short courses that were taught in 1925 at the Iowa State College (University) in Ames, Iowa. 

A resolution was adopted in 1927 to form a state garden club organization,  A committee was selected to compile a list of all garden clubs in the state and create articles of organization.

The constitution was presented at the 1928 Garden short course and unanimously approved.  In 1929, newly organize Federated Garden Clubs of Iowa became a charter member of the National Garden Club Inc. and the Iowa State Horticulture Society.

Mission statement:

 To stimulate knowledge of gardening; to aid  in the protection of trees, plants and birds; to promote beautification

NGC conservation pledge:

I pledge to protect and conserve the natural resources of the planet earth. I promise to promote education so we may become caretakers of our air water, forest, land, and wildlife.
